Heritage + Art

By Unknown at 9:25:00 AM 0 Secrets

Penang Georgetown
what you guys know about Penang?
island? char kuey teow? gurney? ferry?

For me:
Penang Georgetown - An artistic city which richest with sorts of heritage

Since the beginning from efforts by Ernest Zacharevic,
Lotsa artists started drawing more and more murals on the town's wall
all pieces of art works got it's own meanings
and they did suit well with those heritage in the city
nope,
they did help in expressing those heritages perfectly too

- Little Girl in Blue by Ernest Zacharevic, Muntri Sreet -

 - Magic Trick, Armenian Street -

- Cheating Husband by Tang Mun Kian, Love Lane -

- Cats and human happily living together by ASA, side wall of Cheah Kongsi -
* ASA - Artists for Stray Animals Team*

- Love Me Like Your Fortune Cat by ASA -

- Giant Cat by ASA, Armenian Street -

- Giant Rat by ASA, next to Giant Cat Mural -

 - Little children on a bicycle by Ernest, Armenian Street -

- Armenian Street, just opposite the mural above -

- Armenian Street, just next to the bicycle mural -

- Boy on A Bike by Ernest, Ah Quee Street -

- Camera Museum, Muntri Street -

- Chew Jetty -

- Brother and Sister on A Swing by Louis Gan, Chulia Street Ghaut -

This is the mural I love the most among all
the feel, the expression of the little boy and little girl
remind us for the childhood 'swing' memories
I always thought it is by Ernest but actually it is by Louis Gan
a deaf-mute self-taught artist from Penang

- Children Playing Basketball by Louis Gan, Chulia Street Ghaut -

There are still many meaningful murals, sculptures around Georgetown
waiting for us to figure out
all of these had been scattered around the town
instead of centralized in one place
i think it's a nice idea and concept
as we will slowly explore the town while seeking for these artistic works

“放慢自己的步伐 偶尔停下脚步 看看这个世界 或许会看得更多 体会得更多”
'Slower down your pace, Stop occasionally,
Look at the world, You may view more, Experience more'
this is what I learnt at Georgetown

Now I know the reason Penang-ians loving their city so much
because it's a nice, awesome and cool city
that I still want to explore it again once have another chance

*Remember to do some homeworks before travel to Penang*
To avoid yourself walking blindly around the town

here is the location details for more murals and sculptures:

here is more info about Penang:

besides, there is still lotsa places that have not been stated or known yet
just walk around and you will find out more
may be you can replace it by riding a bicycle if tired of walking a lot

And the robot is still functioning!!! with this old remote

Ta-da!! Raise your hands up if you guys played this before!!

I thought a museum will be a place that storing lotsa 'untouced' and 'half-dead' objects
but this place totally changed my mind

All toys here which 'born' since 1980s or earlier than that
are still maintaining well and still functioning
and this amazed us so much!

The xylophone!
I used to play this when I was child, and I really love it

Ben, the owner of this museum is a nice man
he not only explained every single toys to us one by one
but also let us had fun with it too

I asked him how he found so many old toys, it's really many!
he told me that all toys was their family's toys
they started collect all of these since their grandpa's generation
i was like : 'wow! you guys are good in appreciating these toys'

Many of the children actually don't know how to keep well with their toys
because they never learn to appreciate it, including me *ta-da*

It was made in 1860's by a french
and was popular among British during Victorian Eras

And the Pinball games!
I used to play it just on a PC
never think there is a real machine game existed

with the accurate score calculation and the 'shu-shi-phi-phew' sounds
marvelous

So many of old vintage toys you can find here
